2020 NPSL Season Cancelled

To all our players, coaches, staff, and supporters:

Today, the NPSL announced the cancellation of the 2020 season, due to growing concerns over the corona virus pandemic. The health and safety of the First State FC community comes first, and we need to do our part to help keep our community safe during this crisis. We are, of course, disappointed not to be kicking off our inaugural season with you all in a couple months—we’ve spent the last 14 months putting together an organization that this state could be proud of, both on and off the field.

For now, the soccer can wait… …but it will be back!

First State FC is committed to delivering this state a higher level of competitive soccer and increased access to the sport, and we will continue to build a great organization as we prepare for a successful 2021 NPSL season.

What’s Next Right now

First State FC’s primary goal is helping our community get through this crisis. To help those in our community who have been affected by this, First State FC management has taken the following steps:

  • We have created paid jobs for sportswriters who have lost work due to corona virus

  • We have helped and will continue to help coordinate transportation of food into Delaware food banks to distribute to families in need

  • Two team owners are sewing surgical masks and delivering to local hospitals

  • We are creating social media giveaways for those affected by corona virus

We will continue to look to create/partner with programs and initiatives that are helping our community during this crisis. On the field, First State is working with the league and neighboring clubs to find potential ways to get on the field during the 2020 calendar year.

What You Can Do to Help

  • First and foremost, stay inside, wash your hands, and, if you have more than you need, please consider giving to those who are suffering

  • Follow us on Twitter (@FirstStateFC) and on IG (first_state_fc) or signup for the newsletter to make sure you get the latest team news and updates

  • For those looking to help our community battle corona virus issues, we are in the process of creating a resource list/guide that will be posted here on our website.

  • Head on over to our shop and pick up some First State FC swag to show your support!

We are facing an unprecedented crisis, and it’s important to remember that—whether we are personally feeling the effects of this corona virus or not—we are all in this together. So while we will not be competing in the NPSL this summer, we aren’t going anywhere. You’ll see us on the field in 2021, and you’ll be seeing us in the community starting now.

We hope to see you there too.
